DESCRIPTION:The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will host an

 e K. Young-Wedgewood Community Center to update community members on the c
 losure of the Rolling Hills Construction and Demolition Debris Facility.\n
 \nThe open house meeting will give community members a chance to stop by a
 nd talk one-on-one with FDEP experts and others involved in the closure pr
 ocess. Department staff will share information about the closure process\,
  next steps\, anticipated timeline and answer questions regarding closure 
 of the facility.\n\nThe FDEP has assumed responsibility for properly closi
 ng the C&amp\;D disposal area. The department has taken the necessary step
 s to secure the funds from the facility&rsquo\;s financial assurance suret
 y and obtain control of the performance bond which will be used to properl
 y close the facility.\n\nFDEP&nbsp\;engineers worked with state contractor
 s\, surveyors and landfill closure experts to develop a comprehensive clos
 ure design based on current site conditions. A properly designed and imple
 mented closure plan is crucial to the long-term stability and effectivenes
 s of the site closure. The soil cap must be designed and constructed in a 
 way to abate hydrogen sulfide gases\, prevent erosion and convey stormwate
 r runoff to the permitted stormwater system for the facility.&nbsp\;The de
 partment remains committed to upholding Florida&rsquo\;s stringent environ
 mental standards and protecting the health and safety of Florida residents
  and the environment.
